IN THE SHOP

Fall 2026 Season

BOSS is opening up a new season of making, learning, fixing, and building together.

Come learn a new skill, work on a community project, bring something that needs fixing, or just spend some time in the shop. There’s room for beginners, experienced makers, and everyone in between.

Apprentice Open Shop
Tuesdays · Wednesdays · Thursdays
12–4 PM

Apprentice shop days are a hands-on, accessible way to learn building skills while working on real community projects. BOSS partners with local organizations to take on projects like building a bed, putting up a wall, or making a table. You'll get to practice new skills, get comfortable with tools, and learn alongside other community members. Join us Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from noon to 4 PM. Come once, twice or come every week. Each day moves the project forward, so you'll jump in wherever we are. There's always something to learn, no matter when you join us. Projects vary.

If you are a community partner and would like us to work on your project please contact us!!

Learning nights
Tuesdays · Thursdays
6-9pm

Learning nights are about building skills, confidence, and learning by doing. Tuesdays are shop skills and safety nights, plus repair clinics every other week where you can bring in something broken, and we'll fix it together if we can. Thursdays are project-based workshops, like building small shelves or jewelry boxes, making things from start to finish while you learn the tools along the way. No experience necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to try.

Art Workshops
Varied dates
6-9pm

Art workshops are about playing, experimenting, and making together. We partner with local artists, some self-taught and some professional, to share their skills and their approach to creative expression. These workshops are for women, queer, trans, and femme community members to be themselves, explore new mediums, and learn alongside one another without pressure. Our upcoming workshops include papier-mâché sculpture, followed by a leather working workshop. No experience necessary, just bring your curiosity and a willingness to play. Art workshops are included with BOSS membership. Come join us, explore your creativity, and make something together.

If you are an artist wanting to share your craft, we’d love to chat!

Cost

BOSS is a community shop, and keeping the doors open takes all of us. Workshop fees help us pay our rent, compensate our facilitators, maintain our tools, and keep creating opportunities to learn and make together.

At the same time, we want cost to be as little of a barrier as possible. That’s why we offer sliding-scale memberships, and scholarships. Choose the rate that works for you. If you have the ability to pay a little more, you help make it possible for someone else to pay a little less.

Memberships

Memberships help provide steady support for the shop while giving you access to workshops throughout the year. Shop techs and volunteers get discounted memberships.

  • Community Member $25-$100 : Includes access to sign up for all workshops and apprentice open shop days
$25 · Low Barrier: For folks experiencing financial hardship.

$35 · Community Rate: For folks with limited disposable income.

$50 · True Cost: Helps cover the actual cost of running the shop.

$100 · Pay It Forward: Helps us keep workshops accessible for folks who need a lower-cost option.

  • Shop Key holder $100-300 : Includes 24hr access to shop, work on your own projects when there isn’t workshops scheduled

  • Annual Membership · $1,000 - $1,500 a year : Includes access to BOSS workshops and key holder access.

Key-holder memberships are for folks who want to use the shop independently, outside of regular open hours. You don't have to wait for the shop to be open. You can let yourself in, work on your own projects, and have more flexibility to make the shop part of your regular practice. Key holders must demonstrate shop safety and tool use knowledge , so they can work independently and responsibly in the space. If you haven't learned the tools yet, no worries, you can build those skills through our workshops and trainings before becoming a keyholder. Our goal is to make sure everyone can use the shop safely, confidently, and with care for our community.

The shop is always shared. Key-holder access means you can open the shop for your own projects, but it doesn't mean you have the whole shop to yourself. We ask everyone to be mindful of how much space they're using, leave room for others, and help keep the shop welcoming and usable for the whole community.

Need a little extra support?

BIPOC and low-income scholarships are available. We don’t want money to be the thing that keeps you from learning a new skill.

If you would like a scholarship, have questions about which rate to choose, or just want to talk through what might work for you, reach out to victor@BuildingOutSaferSpaces.org.

Thanks for helping us keep this little shop going. Every membership, and pay-it-forward ticket helps us build a space where more people can learn, make, and belong.
